Why was I charged an "International Transaction Fee" on my debit or ATM withdrawal or purchase?

Visa charges a 1% international transaction fee on all card transactions processed outside of the United States. This is a fee assessed by Visa, not by Alaska USA and includes internet transactions initiated in the United States with a merchant who processes the transaction outside of the United States. For VISA ATM withdrawals and debit card purchases this fee will appear as a separate charge on your statement. For Visa credit card transactions, the international transaction fee assessed by VISA is paid by Alaska USA, not passed on to you, and does not appear on your statement.
