On April 3, 2023, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union will change its name to Global Credit Union. Learn more about this exciting change and our vision for the future.

This name change, the fourth name change in our company’s history, marks a significant milestone in our credit union’s journey, providing an opportunity to reflect on everything that Alaska USA stands for and everything that we aspire to become as we move forward into an exciting future.

This new name is a better description of a membership that is distributed worldwide and more illustrative of our organizational commitment to accessibility anytime, anywhere in the world.

Since we were founded in 1948 as Alaskan Air Depot Federal Credit Union, our organization has expanded far beyond the confines of the Air Depot and the borders of Alaska. As your families grew, we grew. We now have members in all 50 states and all over the world. We have branches in Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Washington, and even on military bases in Italy. We’ve grown to become what Alaska always has been—larger than life. Global.

Our new look

When we decided to change our name to Global Credit Union, we wanted to honor and recognize our deep Alaskan roots, because, after all, that is where our journey began. These roots are expressed in the new Global Credit Union design. The “A” in Global is a direct nod to the mountainous geography of the credit union's Alaska beginnings. The blue and gold colors are also a gesture to the colors on the Alaska state flag. And finally, the gold “summit” of the letter is an arrow, pointing to the future of our members’ financial well-being.

FAQs

The Global Credit Union name reflects our future and represents the diversity of our membership, which spans all 50 states and over 20 countries. The new brand is a better representation of the geographical diversity that our membership represents.

Additionally, the new name better connects with a recent update to the credit union’s charter that allows anyone working in the U.S. Department of Defense—anywhere in the world—to join the credit union.

No. Services for members will not change. You will continue to access account information and products and services in the same way you always have—in branches, online, and through a 24/7/365 Member Service Center. All existing card products, checks, and credentials for online account access will not be impacted and will continue to work after the name change.

Existing Alaska USA members will continue to use their same account numbers.

The credit union’s roots are deeply Alaskan and we will remain headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. Alaska USA employs over 1,100 Alaskan employees in over 14 different communities. We truly believe there is Strength in Members and as the credit union grows our commitment to the state will grow with it.

Alaska USA has always had a strong commitment to community and that won’t change. Our partners in the communities we serve will continue to receive financial support and volunteerism. In fact, the Alaska USA Foundation recently surpassed $4 million in donations to organizations that provide need-based services to children, veterans, active-duty members of the military and their families, and local food banks and pantries. We expect our philanthropic efforts to grow even more in the future!

Alaska USA Insurance Brokers will be changing to Global Credit Union Insurance Brokers and Alaska USA Mortgage Company will change to Global Credit Union Home Loans. In addition, Alaska USA Financial Planning and Investment Services will be known as Global Retirement and Investment Services.

The Alaska USA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, will change to Global Credit Union Foundation.

No, Alaska USA has not been acquired or sold. It is still under the same Federally Chartered Credit Union number and the same routing number. Global is simply a new name that is a better descriptor of the credit union's membership and the vast field of memberships that it serves.

As you are probably aware, credit unions are allowed to service a field of membership, whether that be regionally specific or select employer groups. Alaska USA has over 4,000 different groups it can serve both regionally and employer-based, making it one of the largest credit unions in the United States. And, as we mentioned, we have branches in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, California, Arizona, and Italy servicing those vast groups. Because of that, and to make it more apparent who could join the credit union, Alaska USA has been researching and contemplating a name change for several years. The merger with Global came at a time we were already contemplating a name change and also added another vast Field of Membership to include any person working in the U.S. Department of Defense—anywhere in the world. All these items led the leadership and the Board to the decision that Global Credit Union is a better descriptor of our membership and who can join the credit union.
