Alaska USA is the largest financial institution headquartered in Alaska and the number one consumer lender in the state. It’s the largest mortgage lender in Alaska and a major auto lender in Washington and Southern California. The credit union also operates the largest insurance brokerage in Alaska.
For years, Alaska USA has been voted the favorite financial institution in Alaska and California’s High Desert. The credit union has more than $6.63 billion in assets. Alaska USA has more than 85 branches in 31 communities throughout Alaska, Arizona, California, and Washington, and serves more than 602,000 members in all 50 states and around the world.

1948 Alaska USA is chartered as the Alaskan Air Depot Federal Credit Union to serve the financial needs of civilian employees of the Depot.
1953 Following the separation of Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, the credit union is renamed Elmendorf AFB Federal Credit Union.
1959 The credit union hires its first employee after 11 years of being operated by volunteers.
1972 To better reflect its service to active duty and retired military throughout Alaska, the credit union changes its name to Alaska Command Federal Credit Union and opens a branch on Adak, Alaska.
1973 The Member Service Center, a centralized call center, is established in Denver, Colorado, to provide service to those located outside of Alaska. Alaska USA is the first credit union in the nation and the first Alaska financial institution to provide call center service.
1974 As the Alaska economy grows and diversifies, Alaska USA’s field of membership extends to include workers of the TransAlaska Pipeline service companies and shareholders of 10 of the Alaska Regional Native Corporations.
1975 To represent its growing field of membership, the credit union changes its name to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
1976 Alaska USA is one of the first federal credit unions in the nation to offer checking accounts.
1978 Alaska USA is the first federal credit union to offer 30-year mortgage loans.
1979 As Alaska USA expands its Member Service Network and develops new services, it becomes an attractive merger partner for smaller credit unions. Alaska USA becomes the credit union of choice for the members of six smaller financial institutions in Alaska during the period 1979-1996.
1981 Congress passes Public Law 97-110, giving Alaska USA permanent authority to serve Alaska Native shareholders. This is the first and only time Congress passes a law giving a credit union specific authority to serve a particular group.
1981 Alaska USA is selected by the Department of Defense and NCUA as the credit union to serve U.S. military personnel at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. The branch closes 10 years later after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.
1982 The NCUA authorizes credit union affiliation for occupational and associational groups that were without credit union services.
1983 Alaska USA establishes the Alaska Option Services Corporation, the first and still the only shared Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) network in Alaska that now provides ATM support services to credit unions nationwide.
1983 Alaska USA enters the Pacific Northwest market by merging with Whidbey Federal Credit Union in Oak Harbor.
1986 Alaska USA Insurance Agency is established and now operates as Alaska USA Insurance Brokers.
1992 Alaska USA Mortgage Company is established and now operates more than 19 offices throughout Alaska, in the Pacific Northwest, and in California's Victor Valley.
1994 With services expanding and technology advancing, Anchorage becomes home to the Member Service Center.
1995 Alaska USA introduces Alaska’s first online account access program, Personal Branch. Later, online account access is provided through UltraBranch®.
1997 Alaska USA introduces branches in retail locations that are open seven days a week to better serve the needs of working members.
1998 Alaska USA Trust Company is established in response to members’ needs for investment and trust administration services.
2003 The Alaska USA Foundation is established.
2004 Alaska USA develops a full portfolio of services designed for business members.
2005 As mortgage, insurance, trust, and business services continue to grow, Alaska USA introduces Financial Centers in Alaska communities to provide a one-stop shop to meet the financial needs of individuals and businesses.
2007 UltraBranch Mobile and eStatements were introduced.
2008 Alaska USA Title Agency is established, providing title and escrow closing services in Alaska.
2009 Alaska USA expands service to San Bernardino county, California.
2010 Alaska USA receives Washington Community Charter that permits statewide field of membership.
2011 Alaska USA introduces the Alaska USA app for mobile devices, which ultimately replaces UltraBranch Mobile.
2014 Membership surpasses 500,000.
2014 Alaska USA opens its first Arizona branch in Glendale.
2014 Alaska Option services are absorbed into Alaska USA as changes in the EFT market allow financial institutions to obtain more cost effective nationwide solutions.
2015 The Member Service Center becomes available 24/7, 365 days a year, with member service representatives taking member calls around the clock.
2015 The NCUA authorizes Alaska USA to qualify members in underserved areas of Maricopa County, Arizona.
2015 Alaska USA Title Company is dissolved. Members and real estate partners are still able to obtain services from a variety of sources.
2015 Alaska USA forms a partnership with Allpoint, making available to members 55,000+ surcharge-free ATMs worldwide.
2016 Alaska USA Insurance Brokers Commercial line is sold to Acrisure.
