Questions about the High Desert conversion to Alaska USA

Q: Is High Desert changing its name to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union?

A: Yes. Branch signs were changed over the Labor Day weekend.

Q: Are any branches in the Victor Valley area going to close?

A: No. The three branches remain in operation to serve members. Branch hours have been extended effective September 8 for additional member convenience.

Q: How will products and services change?

A: A letter and enclosures detailing the conversion of High Desert accounts to Alaska USA was sent to members August 6. You may refer to this letter for details on product changes. Q: Will High Desert members get new debit and credit cards?

A: Yes. Letters have been sent to cardholders explaining the conversion and providing information about when debit and credit cards will be replaced. If you have a High Desert card and have not received a notification, you should contact the Alaska USA Member Service Center.

Q: Where can I access surcharge-free ATMs in the Victor Valley area?

A: You continue to have access to surcharge-free ATMs at Alaska USA's three Victor Valley branches. However, Alaska USA does not participate in the Co-Op network, so cardholders may not be able to access other ATMs surcharge-free. Tip: With the Alaska USA Visa Check Card you can receive cash back at most major retail locations when you shop.

Please note: Alaska USA does not charge a fee to members for ATM withdrawals, regardless of what ATM is used. However, the ATM owner may assess a surcharge to use their ATM.

Q: Can I use shared branching?

A: Yes. Alaska USA offers shared branching.

Q: Do I have to get new personal checks?

A: Yes, however personal checks with the High Desert logo can continue to be used after the conversion of accounts.

Q: Will Alaska USA offer mortgage lending and home equity loans?

A: Yes. These services are expected to be available by year end.

Q: Are my deposits safe?

A: Yes. Member deposits at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). The Fund insures deposits up to at least $250,000, with certain retirement accounts insured up to an additional $250,000. Details can be found on the NCUA web site at www.ncua.gov.

Q: What's going to happen to the building at Jess Ranch?

A: Alaska USA acquired the Jess Ranch building, which remains unoccupied at this point, as part of the purchase and assumption. Alaska USA is currently assessing properties in the High Desert area to determine the best locations for member service. A final decision hasn't been made yet about the Jess Ranch facility.
